During our learning time today each student was given a large piece of paper with a word on it. Each word matched another person's in the room. (For example, adult & baby). When all the students had the piece of paper I gave the signal and they had to quickly figure out the match. I told the kids just to find their match, and immediately they were looking for the exact word. It was fun watching them try to figure out who might hold the correct word. When they found their word they sat down. Once all students found their other 1/2 we immediately watched a video.
| When the video was over we reviewed a couple of examples out loud as a team. I then had the group huddle up in a circle and they had to find their other half. Kids scurried around the room looking at each other's card trying to make since. Once all of the students found their team they had a few minutes to discuss what the relationship was and think of another one that went with it. |
This was a wonderful way to get the kids moving. We then used our free time to play an app I found called "This is to That." It is analogies that use pop culture. It was so much fun hearing the kids work together to answer questions like Psy is to Gangham Style, like MC Hammar is to _______. It is a wonderful App and Free.
